Have you seen those bullshit commercials lately from the "clean energy citizens"? Do they remind you of the "Sugar" commercials that tried to convince people that High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is the SAME as cane sugar? And beet sugar in the same also? Yeah, I didn't buy that propaganda either. So, today I was "invited" to send a letter to the candidates expressing my concern for their positions on the "clean energy initiatives". I was encouraged to personalize the letter. And YES, yes I did.
My version:
On the campaign trail this year, candidates have talked about a lot of issues. We've heard about the economy, jobs, national security, and spending. However, I haven't heard enough about one thing that affects all these other issues -- American sourced sustainable energy.
It is unfortunate that oil and gas issues have not been a bigger part of the campaign discussion. The oil & gas industry is in the middle of a downturn. Over 250,000 oil and gas jobs have been lost, and many others are threatened by a slowdown in oil and gas production. For every job lost in the oil and natural gas industry, 3.4 jobs are lost in other sectors. These workers need to be able to transfer over to the sustainable energy sector and need your support. We need the right policies at the federal and state levels that will encourage, not hinder, sustainable and renewable energy industry and jobs. Keep the promises that you made to the American people while you were on the campaign trail.
Enacting pro-sustainable and clean energy policies can create new jobs. They can also grow our economy, provide a clean and affordable source for electricity, and provide tax revenue that funds things like roads, schools, and public safety.
That is why I urge you to voice your support during this campaign for expanding the areas where we can explore switching the federal subsidies to the solar, wind and tidal energy industries, opening up new markets for American energy, and updating our energy infrastructure. While renewable energy sources should be part of the mix, it is also vital that you recognize that Americans will rely on new job training programs and initiatives to meet our energy needs for decades to come and these policy changes will make other renewable energy sources possible. Furthermore, as you focus on environmental issues during this campaign, please ensure that market-based solutions like solar, wind and tidal energy that have already proven extremely effective in reducing pollution, especially to our water supply, are part of the discussion.
I urge you to discuss energy issues, provide a plan to increase American skilled clean energy workforce, and support policies and companies that will strengthen America's energy security.
A pro- sustainable energy platform is a winning platform for our economy, our workers, and our nation. Please focus on this issue as your race for office continues.
Regards,

The best part is....after you fill in the blanks and send. It matches you by your street address to ALL your pertinent candidates from local to federal. Yes, including the presidential candidates. So you get a nice little cheat sheet for if you'd like to send a letter on any other issues you'd like them to know about.
